Get Comfortable with Uncomfortable

Check out these thoughts from OPT's James FitzGerald:

There is more to improvements in physical work capacity than meets the eye.
I first thought that exercise only made our muscles more able, our hearts sustain and our minds free. When I first started introducing people to a component of intensity, I would see changes and outcomes moreso at a psycho-social level than at the physical level.
I thought that there must have been something to the exercise that was causing this.
I have discovered over time that the point at which a person reaches a certain level of intensity is when exercise becomes a "spiritual" thing for them...

Sunday 5k Time Trial at CFSC

We had a small but motivated group come out and do a 5k time trial early yesterday morning. It was a beautiful morning for a run, and everyone made it over to Sectionals to cheer on our coaches and friends afterwards.

We saw some great times yesterday, but we had one standout performance. Before the run Jen said she wanted to finish in less than 30 minutes. I caught her split time at 14:57 so she was right on track to finish in under 30. Jen finished at 28:47 with a negative split of over a minute! WAY TO GO JEN!!!!

We would also like to congratulate some of our former and current SDAE athletes who qualified for Regionals this weekend:

Christer Idland
Nuno Costa

Ayo Anise
Lacie Miller

Congratulations guys!!!!

Sleep for Endurance Athletes

Great post on sleep for endurance athletes, here's an excerpt.

Nothing promotes muscle recovery—and full-body recovery—from the stress of exercise like good old-fashioned sleep. In fact, lack of adequate sleep is itself a stressor, so if you consistently under-sleep, you will not recover from your workouts as quickly and you will also be unable to handle as much marathon training or triathlon training as you could handle if you did sleep adequately.

If you are running the full marathon we strongly encourage you to be doing 3 CFE workouts per week.  If you are attending our track sessions on wednesday and our sunday morning workouts, then you can find a way to fit this workout in sometime during the week.

20 seconds on 10 seconds - 16 rounds, all out efforts

This workout is one of the most intense experiences you will encounter in your training- think Fran while running. It has been proven to be one of the most efficient ways to train - but don't take my word for it, read the following articles to gain a look into why our training methods work so well.
